Chana Masala Salad and Upcoming Cooking Planit T-Fal Giveaway

Chana Masala is an awesome Indian dish involving chickpeas, tomatoes and a bunch of spices. It can be the filling for a Samosa, and I’ve also had it wrapped in Naan bread from Masala Times, a fantastic fast-food Indian spot in the West Village. When Jon and I got back from India a few years ago, I made a hot version of chana often and served it as a dip with pita chips. This salad is a lot less work, but gives you some of the same flavors in a cool, refreshing salad that is satisfying but still light.

INGREDIENTS:
(Salad for 2)

1 16-oz can of Garbanzo beans
1 pint cherry tomatoes
1 shallot, minced
1 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp garam masala
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp curry powder
1 clove garlic, zested
1 tbsp sour cream
Olive oil
Salt and pepper

What To Do:

      1. Dice the cherry tomatoes and mince the shallots. Zest the clove of garlic.
      2. Mix all the rest of the ingredients together and serve with rice or as a salad on its own.

Thanks Steve! We’ve been trying to eat more healthy vegetarian dishes like this – it’s not easy to always keep it interesting but this one is fun and super simple. Glad you liked it!

This is how I make chana masala, too! (A chunky instead of a smooth/pureed tomato & onion version… although I have to puree the whole thing in order to get my fiancee to eat it, which is how I ended up creating a “chana masala hummus”…) But anyway, this looks delicious! I’ve never tried using shallots in it, but I bet that’d taste lovely.
